Ado Awaye is a town in Oyo State, Nigeria, popular for its hill Oke Ado on which we can find Lake Iyake, one of the only two suspended lakes in the world. A suspended lake is a lake found on top of the mountain. In the US we can find the Hanging Lake in Colorado. The name Ado Awaye is derived from the two biggest cities in the area: Ado and Awaye.
The lake is a three hour drive from Ibadan, but most of our clients are coming from Lagos, which takes four to five hours. It is a long trip, but you can be assured that it’s worth the trip as the landscape is truly beautiful with hills, valleys and rocky landscapes to behold. We usually leave Lagos around 6 in the morning to arrive around 10 am. It takes around two hours to get on the highest peak of the mountain, where we usually stay to get lunch, after which we descend. If everything goes as planned we’ll be back in Lagos before 7 pm.
We ask you to wear adequate shoes and clothing, packed lunch, bring lots of water and be sure you’re protected against the sun.
